A quick note on how this stove works. Use small twigs/sticks or a small log chopped into long skinny pieces. Place the wood into the front of the stove sticking out to rest on the top of the front handle. When the fire is started the airflow will come from the bottom of the front of the stove and blow out the top with very little to no smoke. The stove is insulated to allow all of the wood to burn with little ash. Once the stove is started you can cook a large meal with little fuel. The wood/fuel will need to be fed into the front or pushed farther in every few minuets because the fire is contained in the center of the stove.
Now my experience
We just took this stove camping and it worked better then expected. I started my fire with some cotton balls dipped in olive oil then dropped in from the top. Then I used a portion of a small log chopped into long skinny pieces and placed in the top of the front of the stove. It took about 5 or so minuets to get the fire going before I could cook. Temperature control was a little hard to achieve at first until I had some coals in the bottom of the stove. Then I only had to use a few sticks at a time to keep the fire fed.
I cooked 4 Dishes with half of that small log and it probably burned for an hour. I did not see any smoke from the fire the entire time cooking. I cooked with a deep cast iron skillet with a lid and everything turned out great. One exception was the first dish burned a little -remember temperature control- (but doesn't salmon taste a little better with some burnt parts :).
The stove did get hot so you needed gloves to move it but you need gloves to cook with cast iron anyway. I cleaned the skillet right on the stove with only the coals left. I also had to clean the bottom and sides that were back from the stove. Then I dumped the small coals into a fire pit using the handles and gloves (leather working gloves). The stove could be touched after about 15 min.
Carrying and storing the stove was not too bad because of the light weight and small size. The stove is made quite well, all of the welds look good and this stove should last me a lifetime. I was really surprised with how little wood was used for dinner, and how long it burned. I had a near full 5 gallon bucket of wood I had to take back home.
